Around English Avenue
There are several styled homes in the neighborhood, though many are small single-family homes of a bungalow style with screened porches and picket fences. Homes near Lindsay Street Park are highly coveted.
Homes in English Avenue are very affordable, especially considering their proximity to downtown. Investors and flippers may find great opportunities here, and first-time buyers can get great deal and cash in on the city’s incentives to buy in the neighborhood.
Fans of homestyle, southern dishes flock to the family-owned K&K’s Soul Food restaurant. The mac & cheese, yams, and peach cobbler taste as great as they look, hot and ready behind the counter. The Marietta Street Artery provides residents with further options like chicken shacks, brew pubs, American eats, Italian servings, Asian bistros, and coffee cafes.
Plenty of traffic comes through the community due to it being a main entry to Donald Hollowell Parkway. Locally owned businesses line the street. A produce store and wing shack is located right of the namesake avenue. Younger residents may be seen on the sidewalks selling fundraiser treats and chilled beverages.
With downtown so close, why not indulge in Atlanta’s nightlife? Locals flock to the city center for eclectic taverns, bars, restaurants, theatres, museums, and shopping. Or, head north to Terminal West to check out some live music. Good Samaritans might also give back to the community by volunteering at Atlanta’s Community Food Bank, which stays open late for active volunteers to help sort and organize products.
Gain your morning energy by heading over to the West Egg Cafe or Thumbs Up Diner. Scramble up breakfast yourself by picking up fresh produce at the English Park community garden. The garden is small in size but big in character with flowers amongst the area and vibrant community art. Further west of English Ave, burn off calories by shooting a few basket hoops, cool off in the pool or under the stone pavilion, and much more at Maddox Park.
Downtown is only a 10-minute drive away via Northside Drive. MARTA buses pass through the neighborhood as well as on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard, and Bankhead Transit Station is available when residents need to take a train. The neighborhood is fairly walkable and bike-friendly as well, so residents have plenty of options for going about their daily business.
