Jones county has a wonderful staff that pushes for academic success and enrollment in college. The system also has a great athletic department

As a former student and current college student, I would have to say JCHS gave me a pretty good educational foundation. I felt I was very prepared in Math and History/Econ. On the other hand I was very far behind the curve in Literature and Science, compared to my peers. But High School is not all about the classroom. I felt JCHS offered a wide variety of extracurricular activities that were fairly easy to get involved with. As a whole this is a Great School compared to The Twiggs, Bibb, Wilkinson, and Jasper School Districts.

I have two children at Jones County. On paper this school looks impressive but the reality is that there is not much learning going on here. My children have learned that they can do nothing for seven weeks and then get caught up just before the grading period ends. I have seen their grades jump from a 45 to an 85 because they are allowed to make up work. I don't think this teaches them to be responsible. There are good teachers at this school but there seems to be a general lack of respect on the part of the students. I have spent time in the classroom and am sometimes shocked at what I hear coming out of the students mouths and by the attitudes they have. There is also a huge drug problem at this school. My children have told me that if there was a schoolwide drug screening most of the students would be expelled. They may be exagerating but I know there is a problem because my family has been affected by it. I think drug screening for student atheletes should be mandatory and I think random drug screening should be performed on all students. I will be glad to leave Jones County High School at the end of this school year.
