Ridgeland has a slightly negative reputation due to issues in the past. However, during my time as a student there (2007-2011), I couldn't have imagined myself at a better school. The teachers that make up the Honors Academy are some of the best teachers in the state of Georgia. I learned more in the Academy than I did during my undergraduate study. I will be graduating from Georgia Southern University in May with a degree in education and am proud to call Ridgeland my high school Alma mater. Go Panthers!!
I am currently in the 10th grade at Ridgeland and could not imagine myself going to any other school. I have heard many complaints about bullies, drug problems, and administration issues from other schools as well as online. For one, bullies are childhood problems. Every school has to deal with them, and its not an administration problem. What do you want them to do? Escort him/her to class? If anything that would make the issue worse. Drugs are also another part of going to school. As long as you say no to them what harm can come to you? As for bad administration, my teachers, advisers, and even my principal(Mr. Glenn Brown) have encouraged and helped me thus far with achieving academic as well as physical goals. Ridgeland's graduation rate has also grown over 25% in the last 6 years! This met and exceeded my standards.
I would like to say 'Thank you' to Coach Mariakis. Please keep praying! You have the area support. My son attends Heritage High, but we'll be attending the home games to show support for you and your right to pray freely-our First Amendment. See ya'll under the Friday night lights. Thank you. God bless. Coop
