The city is surrounded by forest preserves and has several notable golf courses within its boundaries.
Cost of Living
Buffalo Grove has a higher cost of living than the U.S. average, but some of this is due to the town straddling Cook County, where higher property taxes skew the cost of living. Home ownership on the Lake County side tends to be less expensive due to the lower property taxes. Home prices in general can be reasonable due to the fact that Buffalo Grove is comprised mostly of residences, and there's a decent amount of dwellings available for purchase at any given time.
Transportation
The town benefits from easy access to I-94/294, passenger rail, and the suburban bus system, Pace. There are major roadways running through town that include Route 83, Lake-Cook Road, Milwaukee Avenue, and Dundee Road. All major roadways provide access to the expressway systems or to nearby suburbs where major corporations are located. The Metra railway station, located on Commerce Court, travels to suburbs north of Buffalo Grove and south to Chicago. There's also a Pace bus stop at the terminal that services surrounding suburbs.

Buffalo Grove has five school districts: 102, 125, 214, KCSD 96, and Community Consolidated School District 21. Many of the suburbs schools are rated nine or ten on Great Schools. Students typically attend the school that's closest to their residence, though they can attend other schools if they wish. All students who graduate from middle school attend Buffalo Grove High School or Adai Stevenson High School, one of the top-rated high schools in the state.
Attractions
The park district maintains a number of excellent facilities in the town’s many greenspaces. Splash pads, golf domes, dog parks, and swimming pools are just a few of the amenities found in these parks. There’s also quite a few youth and adult programs for fitness, competitive sports, the arts, and more. Buffalo Grove Days is an annual festival that lasts for three days and has events that include a classic car show, parade, arts and crafts fair, business fair, and a BBQ challenge. There's also a live music stage that has performances all three days of the festival. Other festivals are held throughout the year and are typically promoted by local organizations.
