Hoffman Estates
Notable For
The village has been recognized by national publications as one of the best places to live in the U.S., thanks it part to its schools—Hoffman Estates High School, in particular. The village owns the Sear Centre, which hosts semi-pro sports teams and a year-long schedule of events and concerts.
Cost of Living
Hoffman Estates’ overall cost of living is higher than the rest of Illinois and the US. Driving the cost is the village’s housing which is very much in-demand. Single-family houses, which make up the majority of the community’s housing stock, are on average noticeably higher than the state and national averages. The costs, however, are about the same as the rest of the northwest suburbs.
Transportation
Hoffman Estates commuters have a couple of options for getting to Chicago. I-90 leads directly to downtown but can easily become a 2 hour drive during rush hour. Riding the Pace connector bus to the CTA Blue Line stop at O’Hare cuts the commute down to an hour and forty five minutes and is made much more enjoyable by the modern coach-style buses with free wi-fi. Other bus routes in the area run along Golf, Barrington and Roselle Roads, but are not the most convenient for commuting. Many residents use their cars to get to work, run errands and get around the village. For airline travelers, O’Hare Airport is about a 30-40 minute drive and Midway Airport is between an hour and an hour and forty five minutes.
Schools
There are several different school districts which serve the village. Within its boundaries are two high schools and eleven elementary and junior high schools. The schools receive high ratings from the major school ranking systems, noting their high graduation rates and breadth of clubs and programs, especially at the high school level.
Attractions
The Sears Centre is home to the Windy City Bulls (The Chicago Bulls G-League team) and the Chicago Bliss (women’s tackle football). It’s also host to beer festivals, a summer-long outdoor movie series, many high-school level sports events and more. The Woodfield Mall is just down the road in Schaumburg and has a plethora of shopping, dining and entertainment options, including a popular comedy club. Outdoorsy types have two large forest preserves nearby. The Arthur Janura and Paul Douglas Forest Preserves are on either side of I-90 and feature paved trails, a public golf course and a small lake for fishing.
