Around Larchmont
Larchmont is a mix of mid-century apartment complexes and enclaves of upscale single-family homes. The majority of its residents live in these complexes, and like much of the surrounding area they are often under 10 units. For high rises or more modern multiplexes with dozens of units, you are better off living in nearby Park La Brea or taking Highland north to Hollywood. The single-family homes are centered around Larchmont Boulevard and Wilton Place. Many of these homes have been remodeled from their original construction, giving the area a unique architectural style.
Although the main drag of Larchmont is less than a quarter of a mile long, it is packed full of upscale eateries and culinary delights. High-end pizza parlors are located next to ice cream shops that specialize in unusual flavors like "foie gras" and "white toast and apple butter." It's not unusual to find restaurants owned by luminaries like Mario Batali only a short walk away from some of the best taco stands in the city.
Due to the abundance of shops and restaurants, Larchmont has more than its fair share of visitors and even the occasional celebrity. During weekends and most nights, there can be large crowds all vying for reservations at some of the eateries. When the sun is out, you are likely to see plenty of families pushing strollers through the streets. Don't be surprised to see film crews setting up for shoots; they're most likely from nearby Paramount Studios.
The nightlife in Larchmont revolves around its many restaurants, and the community is known for being a great place to take a date or simply meet up with friends for a glass of wine. It's a relatively peaceful neighborhood, and makes for an excellent location before hitting the Hollywood clubs that are only a short trip away.
On Sundays, part of Larchmont Boulevard is closed down, and a farmers market opens. Filled with fresh produce, baked goods, and plenty of hot food, it's an excellent venue for taking a Sunday stroll. Several restaurants are also open for brunch, and its central location means that the rest of L.A. is only a short drive away.
