Around Madison Valley
Homes located along the northern part of the neighborhood have access to Madison-Mercer Woods as well as Washington Park Playfield, which offers plenty of greenspace. Another spot that is a haven for foliage is the Harrison Ridge Greenbelt off 32nd Avenue NE and East John Street. This urban forest is about six acres and is a lovely shady backdrop for the surrounding homes. Homes close to Madison Street give residents access to everything from grocery and hardware stores to cafes and wine bars all within walking distance.
Madison Valley is home to a variety of long-standing restaurants, making it hard to choose where to go for dinner on any given day. Most restaurants can be found on East Madison Street and range from French and Spanish cuisine to Japanese and American fare. For French cuisine, Viola! Bistrot has been serving its Parisian fare since 2004, and for the last 20 years, The Harvest Vine has been cooking traditional Basque food paired with a well-curated list of Spanish wines. For over 30 years, Café Flora has been a local favorite for its gourmet vegetarian cuisine. Nishino is another neighborhood staple that has been offering its innovative Japanese dishes since 1995.
Madison Valley is home to some of the most diverse architecture in all of Seattle. Streets are lined with Craftsman-style bungalows, gingerbread-like Victorians, Tudors, beachy Cape Cods, and charming vintage mansions. The streets tend to be very well-manicured with tall shady trees like the large Maples that change colors every fall. Charming boutiques, artisan specialty shops, and stylish restaurants line the main road of East Madison Street.
Though Madison Valley has its share of great dining establishments, nearby Capitol Hill has a plethora of bars and restaurants featuring almost every cuisine under the sun. After dinner, catch a show at Neumos on East Pike Street, which is one of Seattle’s legendary music venues. Visit the Baltic Room to dance the night away to the tunes of a rotating crop of DJs.
Stock up on gourmet picnic fare at The Belle Epicurean, which is a French-style patisserie that has everything to create a delicious meal to-go. Then head to nearby Denny Blaine Park and Beach to enjoy lunch al fresco. Afterward, take a dip in Lake Washington or enjoy a variety of other outdoor activities.
King County Bus Line 11 winds through Madison Valley then through Capitol Hill and on to Downtown Seattle. Once downtown, riders can transfer to a number of bus lines that service the entire city. The Capitol Hill station of the Sound Transit Link Light Rail is a short walk from the East Pine Street and Broadway bus stop, connecting passengers to the University District, Downtown Seattle, and Sea-Tac Airport. Madison Valley is also very pedestrian and bike-friendly, so leaving the car at home to explore the neighborhood on foot or bike is common.
