Around Miles
Cherry Field hugs the eastern part of the neighborhood. Youth camps and sporting events take place here as there are several soccer fields and beautiful baseball diamonds. The ball diamonds are at the base of a slope with some bleacher seating, so there is always a great view. Practicing catch or just taking a stroll around the park is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. It also has more green space than the rest of the community.
Truth be told, there isn't much to do in Miles proper on a Friday night, but the surrounding area has abundant options. Just to the southwest of the neighborhood is the Barrio Brewing Company, which has been in operation since 1991. Across Broadway Boulevard is a live music venue and a few sports bars. The Taco Shop is a locally owned fast food option. For anyone seeking an exciting Friday evening, their best bet is to venture to one of the surrounding neighborhoods.
With the lack of dining, entertainment, or outdoor options, most residents will spend their free time along the renovated river walk in the middle of the community when it does open. Since the university is just a short commute away, you can expect to see residents commuting back and forth throughout all hours of the day. Cherry Field, the university's recreational field, is in the eastern part of Miles.
Miles has relatively few dining options. There is the Taco Shop, which is across from Miles Exploratory Learning Center and is open 24 hours. There are also some fast food options, convenience stores, and a small grocery store. Although there are few options within the neighborhood itself, nearby Rincon Heights and Downtown have some of the most exciting cuisine that they city has to offer.
Broadway Boulevard cuts through the northernmost part of the neighborhood, so if you're looking to avoid noise, moving farther south is ideal. The Arroyo Chico Waterway cuts through the middle of the community, but the city has plans of adding on outdoor river walks in the future. Once complete, it will add an excellent outdoor trail for residents of Miles, but it also may bring in more foot traffic from the surrounding neighborhoods. Those looking for a quieter area should consider the east portion of the neighborhood, a block north of Cherry Field (on East 12th Street or East Miles Street). Homes are modestly sized and there is also very little in way of greenery outside of the park. Some homes have a few bushes, but most of the neighborhood has sand and rock landscaping.
