I am giving this a 2 because some of the staff is very nice. I am not sure when some of these reviews were but this is 2017 and this school is horrendous. I moved to Charlotte for a better life than in NY, my daughter deserves to be in a school that she does not fear her safety. All of my daughter's teachers have been nice to her, but as a whole, communication is terrible. She was supposed to get tutoring last year and all of a sudden it was cancelled for no reason and the front office didn't know anything about it. Over 20 times communicated with school about ConnectEd and access was not resolved. Children in the class do not care if their grades are low, there is no pride for good grades or studying or even being in class not being disruptive. After witnessing an incident at the school I can honestly say that some of what they did was done very well to break up the fighting, however, no follow through was made to dismiss children in a safe way at dismissal time on the day of the incident despite the administration telling me they would do so. This is an old campus with old buildings and there is no way in my mind that metal detectors can be put in - with as many fights that are happening almost every day, it is safe to assume there is major concerns that things can escalate to situations that will be beyond the school's control. Unless the students come home and say something, we are never advised what is going on in the school. It is a disgrace that this behavior is happening with teenagers every day. I understand fighting happens at school, but this is insane. After talking to graduates and other parents, I have confirmed that the school has not changed much since the riots occurred back in '05 or '06.
The teachers are almost perfect some could do better but the fighting and bullying issue in your school is absolutely terrible. They need to start teaching students how to be good and punish them more harshly not just a slap on the wrist or iss/oss. You could try scaring the kids into behaving like having a field trip to a local prison I'm sure some parents would just love that, I know I would
We have been a part of the Viking community for two years and have had a fantastic experience. My son is in the IB Program and has enjoyed making lots of new friends and being involved in various sport and academic activities. Our school may not be shiny and new, but we have a lot of heart and pride. If you are considering moving to the area, please reach out and speak to kids and parents that currently attend North Meck. You can also stop by the school and talk to the administrators. Go Vikings!!!
Although North is going through some major changes such as new principals, administrators, and staff, I still find it more appealing than ie; Vance, Hough, Hopewell, Butler, etc. The students at North has the up most school spirit. I mean. Have you been to our football games ?? There are great teachers at North, they're full of spirit and enthusiasm that makes me want to learn. Overall, it's a pretty good school and I'm proud to say that I am a Viking!
