Around Northridge
Northridge is primarily made up of single-family homes and condominium complexes and is one of the least densely populated areas in the greater Los Angeles area, making it a great neighborhood for residents who want a bit more space. Most of the action centers around Reseda Boulevard and is where you'll find a lot of Northridge's condominium options. The Van Nuys Airport sits just to the southeast of this neighborhood, so those who desire some peace and quiet should avoid that part of the neighborhood.
Northridge has a wonderful variety of restaurants and cuisines that range from Korean BBQ to Middle Eastern restaurants. Most of Northridge's restaurants are on its main thoroughfare, Reseda Boulevard, and you'll find delectable local establishments and chain restaurants. Northridge also hosts one of the city's longest-operating restaurants: Joyce's Coffee Shop, which opened in 1955 and has been serving up no-frills diner food to generations of Northridge residents.
With the presence of the university, you can expect to see students rushing off to class or studying at the local cafes. Northridge also has multiple elementary and middle schools, several parks, and the Delmar T Oviatt library. Residents also flock to the Northridge Mall, the largest mall in the county.
The nearby university ensures that a Friday night in the neighborhood is always a lively one. Although most of the bars in Northridge tend to be low-key pubs where locals can catch a Dodgers game, there are renowned cocktail lounges and inventive restaurants throughout the neighborhood. The Valley Performing Arts Center regularly holds lectures, concerts, and comedy. The university also holds film festivals every summer and showcases movies that range from well-known blockbusters to the latest foreign and independent films.
Start off the day with brunch at one of several restaurants along Reseda Boulevard or Tampa Avenue. Greek Festivals come through the area every year if you want to see some traditional Greek dancing and enjoy traditional Mediterranean food. There are also some skating rinks where you can go and have a great time with the kids. There is also a local, free arcade if you want to play some games from your childhood. There are plenty of fitness centers in the area if you want to get in a work out before the week starts up again.
