This was the worse decision my son and I made. I wish we would have never attended this school. Do not expect responses when reaching out to admin regarding your child. The only time they do contact you is when it's too late for anyone to make any changes. Worse school my child could have attended, it completely ruined his outlook on HS.

Excellent school. Most teachers are young and motivated and the school has a friendly and supportive environment. The principal, Ms. Rodriguez-Tabone is great; she not only strives for academic excellence, but she constantly makes an effort to integrate parents and the school community in extracurricular activities. This year Queens Metro High School’s math team won against Townsend Harris High School math team!

Some people get MELS (Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School) and Queens Metropolitan High School mixed up. I want to clarify that MELS and Metropolitan High School are two completely separate, independent schools. They have nothing to do with one another. I didn’t know how good Queens Metro was until my child started going there. He’s an excellent student, he was in an honors class at Russell Sage and he had a GPA of 97.5 and high state tests scores. Yet, he didn’t want to take the SHSAT. We didn’t push for it (well...not too much, anyway) because we knew that Metro was a good neighborhood school and we were ready to transfer him if things didn’t work out. Queens Metro is better than we expected. The more we learn about it, the more we like it. Not only the environment is very welcoming and containing for the students and families, but also the teachers are top notch! They are highly educated, young, energetic, engaged, good communicators, with high expectations and a passion for teaching. The principal, Ms. Rodriguez-Tabone is coming straight from Stuyvesant High School, where she used to be the Assistant Principal! This is Ms. Rodriguez-Tabone's second year at Metro and she’s making the school better and better. She’s an amazing leader, committed to strong academics, making the best of every student and taking the school to the next level. She’s bright, approachable and efficient. The school is getting grants and is transforming a trip to Costa Rica (which students can take at any point during the 4 years) into a community service trip. They have several clubs and varsity sports. They have AP and College Now courses. Now, there are kids at Queens Metro who got into Bronx Science and Townsend Harris and chose to come to Queens Metro. Also, recently, kids who were in other Specialized high schools for their freshman year who ended up transferring to Queens Metro because they didn’t want to put up with the commute, having a great school in their area. That’s how good it is.A lot of kids in the area end up going to the Specialized High Schools. Queens Metro is a great alternative to that. I hear horror stories of kids from other neighborhoods who are excellent students but were not matched to a good school. We are so, sooo lucky to have Queens Metro in our neighborhood.

The teachers are excellent, young, patient and understanding. Students can come to them with school work issues or personal advice. Extra help is provided after school or during lunch period. My two kids never experienced or saw bullying. No uniforms but dress code with dignity is enforced. Love this school.
