Around Queensboro Hill

Located on the eastern side of Van Wyck Expressway, distance from busy highways and proximity to parks is the secret to this desirable Queens location. There’s certainly lots to choose from in Queensboro Hill, where small, single-family homes mingle with modest apartment complexes, often even on the same block. One thing to note is that the most prized housing options come outfitted with parking, as owning a car is common in the neighborhood.

Those who make a home in Queens come to expect some of the best food in all of New York. Those who find themselves in Queensboro Hill might be underwhelmed by the offerings. The one impressive offering is the neighborhood’s Asian cuisines such as Shanghainese and Tawainese fares, most of which can be found on Main Street. Eateries like Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao and Main Street Imperial Taiwanese are local favorites, and as with many authentic establishments, both are cash-only—a regular occurrence in Queensboro Hill.

Main Street in Queensboro Hill is less like the idyllic vision of small shops and local commerce and more like a thoroughfare through the neighborhood. There are some shopping stops, a few restaurants, but nothing like nearby Flushing or Manhattan. There’s a beautiful library branch of Queens Public Library located on Main Street. Enveloped in green, Queensboro Hill feels like a slice of the city next to the park, in that way, it's similar to uptown neighborhoods around Central Park.

Queensboro Hill isn’t known for its lively Friday night offerings. Instead, take a ride into neighboring Flushing, which has tons more late-night options. Take the 7 train to Golden Shopping Mall and prepare to eat like royalty. The food here is fantastic and the prices are unbelievable. After a proper dinner, head to Soho KTV for karaoke in a private room, perfect for special events or just a much anticipated Friday night out.

Keep it local on Sunday by starting with breakfast from Anda Cafe. Then make your way to pick up any holds at the Queensboro Hill Library across the street. Take a stroll into Flushing Meadows-Corona Park and read on a bench along the water. Then, opt for an afternoon at the Queens Museum and the gorgeous grounds behind the building. Take a long walk back through Queens Botanical Garden where you can appreciate all of the natural beauty.

The lifestyle in Queensboro Hill almost certainly calls for access to a car. The housing options reflect that, most with covered garages or serious driveways. But Van Wyck and Long Island Expressways are right next door. Accessing the 7 train in Flushing via the Q44 bus is one option. If time is of the essence, then the Long Island RailRoad stops at Flushing Main Street, making for a 30-minute commute into Penn Station.
