Around Roseville
The area is sometimes divided into Lower Roseville, which centers around Park Avenue, and Upper Roseville, which is centered around Bloomfield Avenue. A large percentage of the residential properties consist of single-family homes. The community also offers some older apartment buildings, four-story walkups, and and residential condos just blocks from Branch Brook Park.
Prices in Roseville are generally considered moderate, as the neighborhood offers one of the best options in the city for New York commuters with a combination of light rail and bus service directly to Newark Penn and direct service to New York Port Authority bus terminal, completely bypassing NJ Transit.
Roseville has some of the best local cuisine in Newark, particularly along Bloomfield Avenue where Italian fare and Portuguese BBQ attracts locals and tourists from across the region. Ecuadorean cuisine is also a major staple here. Legendary pizzeria Dickie Dee's is a mandatory location with a specialty consisting of Italian hot dogs with potatoes, peppers, and onions stuffed inside pizza bread.
Bloomfield Avenue and Park Avenue are the lifeblood of Roseville, each located at major intersections of Branch Brook Park. While working class, the neighborhood is almost suburban in nature due to acres of greenspace, athletic fields, and even a nearby golf course in the park. Bloomfield Avenue and to a lesser extent Park Avenue are retail centers, with restaurants, bars, auto repair shops, pharmacies, and local markets, making the area very convenient and walkable.
Roseville has a major bar and restaurant scene, as the immigrant flavor makes it a great option for soccer fans second only to the Ironbound. Movies are often shown on Fridays in Branch Brook Park and first-run movie theaters and nightclubs are located just 15 minutes away in Montclair, Clifton, and other nearby malls.
Go for a jog, walk, or bike ride in the park or take the family on a picnic. The neighborhood is convenient to local public transportation options and is near major highways, which are convenient to many area malls.
Roseville has five stops on the Newark Light Rail Line which skirts along its eastern boundary. The line takes riders all the way to Penn Station, making a commute to NYC fairly easy. There are also several bus lines running down Roseville, Bloomfield, and Park Avenues. The neighborhood can be considered somewhat walkable. It can be convenient for people who live closer to the major thoroughfares to walk to a nearby grocery store or do some errands, but most residents likely will rely on their car.
