Around Shadow Creek Ranch
There are four well-appointed recreation centers in Shadow Creek Ranch. Each features swimming pools and sand volleyball courts. Toddlers have their choice of splash pads or kiddie pools. Older kids and adults have twisty slides and a diving pool for maximum fun. Tennis and basketball courts, a picnic pavilion, a BBQ, and a reservable party room round out the centers' facilities. Woven throughout Shadow Creek Ranch is a 22-mile system of hike and bike trails which connects its 12 playgrounds and recreation centers. Kids always have a place to play nearby and bikers can travel the entire length of the community without ever crossing a major street. For a more contemplative form of exercise, residents can enjoy a casual walk along the Shadow Creek Ranch Nature Trail. Shopping convenience was carefully planned for the Shadow Creek Ranch's residents. Several commercial areas were set aside along the outer edges of the community for business and retail. Major grocers, department stores, and restaurants can be found right at its entrances. Shadow Creek Ranch is in the Alvin Independent School District. Within the ranch's boundaries are four elementary schools (Marek, Wilder, York and Brothers), Nolan Ryan Junior High, and Shadow Creek Ranch High School.
Youth sports, particularly Little League baseball, are huge in Pearland and Shadow Creek Ranch is perfectly situated right in the middle of it all. Either through Pearland's park district or through private programs, kids have a full range of sports to play. There's plenty of baseball and soccer, but other sports like gymnastics, tennis, football, and even rugby, can be found at park locations across the city. The city built a $10 million sports complex at the northwest edge of Shadow Creek Ranch which features nearly two dozen baseball, soccer, and multi-use fields. This facility is a hive of sports activity year-round where parents watch their kids' games or take the younger ones to the playground. There's a lot going on just outside of the community boundaries. Dining options range from all of the major fast food chains to casual dining restaurants at the Pearland Town Center. Golfers have two golf courses to choose from and movie-goers have a 12-theater complex less than 5 minutes away. For short day trips, residents can go to Houston Texans and Astros games, the zoo, fine arts, and natural history museums.
