Around South Tampa
South Tampa's waterfront along Bayshore Boulevard near Ballast Point is dominated by canopies of storied trees and Spanish moss. The area changes character closer to Gandy Boulevard with hip coffee shops and bars dotting the landscape, but it also takes on a slightly grittier edge as you move farther north in the direction of Downtown.
South Tampa has numerous eateries catering to upscale clientele including elegant steakhouses, Italian Bistros, and artisan cuisine. At the same time, the neighborhood also offers a wide range of more affordable options of a variety of different ethnic backgrounds – everything from Thai to Turkish dishes can easily be found here.
Recreational cycling is a popular hobby in South Tampa, so expect to see a good amount of bikes around every corner. While the moss-laden trees are a constant sight, the occasional skyward glance might yield the sight of a jet flying over en route to MacDill Air Force Base, granting an impromptu air show. The neighborhood's waterfront also lends one of the city's most idyllic views.
Take an early evening stroll along the Bayshore coast, then head to one of the area's highly regarded restaurants for dinner. Next, meet up for coffee with friends, or perhaps check out a local wine bar. With Downtown Tampa also just a few minutes away, there is a wide range of options.
Grab your bike and take a few miles around the neighborhood early in the morning. Or, if you would prefer a more leisurely activity, hitting up a golf course is a popular Sunday pastime for South Tampa residents. As far as shopping goes, high-end destinations are also close at hand.
