You can’t get any closer to downtown Atlanta than the Sweet Auburn neighborhood. Auburn Avenue and Edgewood Avenue are home to much of the neighborhood’s dining and entertainment, and Selena Butler Park and Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park are both centrally located in this walkable community.
This centrally located neighborhood provides residents with an excellent downtown location and access to plenty of amenities, and prices here tend to vary. Lofts and condos offer more affordable options for prospective buyers, and some properties in this neighborhood can be less expensive than neighboring Inman Park or Old Fourth Ward.
Edgewood and Auburn avenues are the go-to spots in this neighborhood for food, offering everything from barbeque and southern-style seafood to Italian, Venezuelan, Jamaican and American fare. Local favorites are Sweet Auburn Seafood and Noni’s, but the neighborhood offers countless cafes, eateries, and restaurants, all within walking distance from one another.
You’ll see both visitors and locals in this neighborhood, touring the many national historic sites, admiring street art or visiting the Sweet Auburn Curb Market. Because of its proximity to downtown, its common to see office workers taking advantage of the many dining options here during their lunch hours. Sweet Auburn is also known for its Black History Month celebrations, from notable food to performances and parades.
Sweet Auburn is home to the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, an indoor food market with food stalls, produce, butchers, bakeries, and dine-in eateries. The neighborhood is also home to a variety of wine bars, beer gardens and cocktail lounges, including the Georgia Beer Garden, a neighborhood spot offering local beers and an outdoor patio, or the Circa Cafe, a rooftop bar with live music and Latin fare. Downtown and Midtown are right next door, providing theater, comedy, museums, live performances, and a wide range of restaurants and bars.
Sweet Auburn hosts a handful of festivals and events throughout the year, including the Sweet Auburn Festival, the Sweet Auburn Springfest, and the Sweet Auburn Music Festival. BQE Restaurant is a popular spot for brunch, and there are a handful of museums around this neighborhood, including the APEX Museum, Madam CJ Walker’s and The King Center.
This neighborhood is very walkable, and residents here have easy access to downtown Atlanta, Old Fourth Ward and other neighboring areas. The Atlanta Street Car runs through Sweet Auburn and connects the neighborhood to downtown, and the area is bordered by I-85, providing convenient access for commuters. The King Historic District Station is located centrally in Sweet Auburn, and the nearby King Memorial Transit Station and the Peachtree Center Transit Station provide access to MARTA train lines that run throughout the city.
