Around Timbergrove
There is a great mix of housing in Timbergrove. Most of the area is taken up by single-family homes in suburban-like subdivisions. These homes are distinctly from a bygone era, the area consisting of mid-century, one-story homes that are attractive for first-time buyers looking to be close to the city. As Houston expands and land becomes more scarce, a large number of upscale townhomes have begun popping up in the area, which, combined with the more modest housing in the area, make Timbergrove more affordable than options closer to the downtown area.
Timbergrove has plenty of variety to please the palate of any resident. BBQ and Tex-Mex restaurants are a given, but with the younger population moving in, a wide-variety of boutique and exotic restaurants are following. Drive to Ella and you'll find every fast food joint under the sun, which is great for when you're in a hurry. If you journey towards The Heights, you can experience fine cuisine from some of Houston's hottest chefs.
One walk around Timbergrove and you'll see how central community is to this neighborhood. From families venturing out with their young children to people running and walking the bayou and trails, there is always a lot of activity in the area. While some of the surrounding areas have less favorable reputations, the Timbergrove community is a safe one where people can walk to the grocery store - that is if they can brave the Texas summer heat.
Timbergrove has plenty to offer over the weekend. Downtown and some of the more popular club areas are only a short ride away, but the Heights has a lot of low-key spots to enjoy social time with your friends or family. The Karbach Brewery is nearby, where days and evenings can be spent sampling beer and playing board games. There are also collections of hole-in-the-wall spots with a lot of history, which are popular gathering spots for the neighborhood's more established residents. While not as outgoing as some of Houston's other neighborhoods, Timbergrove has a quiet, understated charm that makes for a relaxed Friday evening.
There are plenty of walking and running trails in the area, especially around the bayou. Timbergrove also features some playgrounds, perfect for spending an afternoon with your children and makes the neighborhood an attractive area for families. Go a little farther into the Heights and you will find 19th street, a quaint shopping center with a variety of thrift and locally owned businesses. Make sure to stop in at Hugs and Donuts for some delicious treats to get your day started right. Throughout the year the area features festivals, Christmas light shows, and more.
