North Nashville, Tennessee

North Nashville is the area directly north of downtown Nashville, divided from the city center by the lively Jefferson Street. This primarily residential area is home to both urban and suburban neighborhoods, as well as Tennessee State University, Meharry Medical College, and Watkins College of Art and Design. As one of the oldest communities in Nashville, North Nashville has seen growth and redevelopment in many of its neighborhoods, and many urban neighborhoods closer to downtown have become a hub for art and music in the Nashville area. North Nashville offers a mix of the city’s history alongside newer businesses, art galleries, music venues, restaurants, and shops, giving this area a distinct culture in the Nashville area.
