Oak Point
Notable For
Officially incorporated in 1976, Oak Point was originally home to only a few hundred people. The city has grown significantly, and while still primarily rural at its heart, interspersed throughout the prairieland are beautifully serene subdivisions, many of which are lakeside and surrounded by thickly forested areas.
Cost of Living
While the median home cost in Oak Point is above that of Texas and the nation overall, other costs of living, including utilities and groceries, are more affordable compared to national averages. Transportation costs, however, are slightly above the national average, due to the fact that many residents commute to the DFW area for work.
Transportation
Located south of Highway 380, the heart of Oak Point is around 40 miles north of downtown Dallas, while Denton and Frisco are each approximately 13 miles away. The Texas Eagle Amtrak line makes stops in Dallas and Fort Worth, allowing residents an option for interstate travel other than driving or flying. DFW International Airport is a 28-mile drive from Oak Point, and Dallas Love Field is 37 miles away.
Schools
Depending on where you live, Oak Point is served by the Denton Independent School District or the Little Elm Independent School District. A few private and preschool options are also available, just a short drive away in neighboring cities.
Attractions
Lewisville Lake itself is certainly one of the major attractions in Oak Point, as well as the lakeside Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club. The Prestonwood Polo Club is also a popular spot among local polo enthusiasts, and while there is no business district in Oak Point, Denton and Frisco both offer residents of Oak Point plenty of options for an afternoon or a night out on the town.
