Math teachers especially in this school are the mot difficult people to talk to and try to work with. I have told every single math teacher since kindergarten that my child is a hands on learner when it comes to math. Not a single one of her three teachers listened to me and I am amazed that she even got promoted to 4th grade with as abismal as her math STARR grade was. The teachers there seem to get very defensive if you try to question their methods and are verging on mean when they tell you what your child needs help with. No parent teacher conferences either. If you work and can't take time off to meet with the teacher on THEIR lunch or right after school is let out, good luck talking to them ever. My child was physically hurt multiple times by other students and not once was I notified. My child was being bullied and the teachers knew and only once was I notified and they basically just said they called because they were made to with no resolution. There is also an awful lice infestation in that school and god forbid parents be made to do something about it. I spent $100s a month on lice treatment/preventative on this one child. No one else in the house had this issue the entire time she went to that god forsaken school. I was ecstatic the last day of 3rd grade. Guess what? No lice since the end of that school year. Why don't you teach your children to be leaders in not spreading bugs thru out the county?
I ran and served on the school board because I was concerned with scores in some of the schools. Live Oak is a pretty good school considering we are in Texas which somewhat lags the nation in education. There is a fair amount of turnover most of the teachers are caring and helpful. My son went through the schools here and recently graduated from UT and will be going to law school. A child can get a good education here.
This campus has much to be desired in academic achievement and administration. They spend too much time and energy on things that are not related to student achievement.
I have a child at another school in the area and I go to Live Oak each week as a mentor for a student in 1st grade. One thing I definitely notice about this school is the teachers yell a lot...nearly all the time...and no one seems to mind...being a teacher takes a high level of patience which these educators are certainly lacking in. Additionally, I think it is the wrong idea to have televisions in the lunch room for kids to watch while they are eating...what kind of habit is this to teach a child??
