Shavano Park residents are blessed to have two wonderful parks in close proximity. Eisenhower Park provides a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of urban living and is only a few minutes away. It's a 320-acre nature preserve with a full offering of park facilities. Joggers and hikers have 5 miles of wooded trails to explore while kids have an awesome playground and kid-safe climbing wall to scale. Family reunions and picnics are spectacular thanks to the facilities which include a kitchen, covered pavilions, and lots of shaded areas. The Phil Hardberger Park is a conservancy which has hiking/biking trails, dog parks for both small and large dogs, and a beautifully designed ecology center that offers a number of educational events and guided hikes throughout the year. Shopping is very convenient as there are several large commercial areas along I-10, the Anderson Loop, and Huebner Road. The Shops At La Cantera and The Rim are two shopping malls that are each 10 minutes away and combine for nearly 350 stores and restaurants. Family fun is near by as well. Six Flags Fiesta and a number of movie theaters are also within 10 minutes. Golfers have their choice of two golf courses and a driving range nearby. Schools in the area are part of the Northside Independent School District. Northside is routinely ranked as one of the top ten districts in San Antonio by a number of ranking services. Patricia Blattman Elementary, Huebner Elementary, Locke Hill Elementary, and Clark High School are the closest schools to Shavano Park.

Being active is easy in Shavano Park. Kids play ball in the Northside Suburban Little League, Spurs Youth Basketball League, two different youth football leagues, and several soccer programs. The San Antonio Park District provides dozens of activities at facilities close to Shavano Park. Martial arts, art, dance, and music classes for kids are offered monthly. Adults have lots of options for getting into or staying in shape. There are plenty of gyms in the area and the aforementioned Eisenhower and Hardberger parks are ideal for running. The Shavano Park Tennis Club is a serious facility with nine courts, leagues, and instruction for adults and juniors. Nights out are pretty easy to plan with so many dining options available, not just at the malls but also throughout the north side of San Antonio. Popular seasonal events and holidays, such as Arbor Day, the Fourth of July, and Thanksgiving bring Shanavo Park residents together for fun and a strong sense of community.
