Sunnyvale
Notable For
Officially formed in 1953 when four local hamlets merged together, Sunnyvale is known today for its beautiful lakeshore area, thickly-wooded forests, gently rolling grasslands, and the sleepy suburban neighborhoods that are scattered throughout this North Texas city. There is also an industrial district just across Highway 80 in the southern section of town, which attracts a decent amount of business to the area.
Cost of Living
Due to its proximity to downtown Dallas and its semi-rural feel, Sunnyvale is a popular area among homebuyers, and the city’s median home cost is above that of Teas and the nation. Although housing is relatively expensive in Sunnyvale, other costs of living—like utilities and groceries—are at or below the national and state averages.
Transportation
Located between I-20 and I-30, Sunnyvale is approximately 15 miles from downtown Dallas and around 22 miles from Plano. Highway 80 runs east to west through the heart of Sunnyvale, and I-635 runs north to south along its western edge, allowing residents easy access to the surrounding eastern Dallas suburbs. Dallas Love Field Airport is around 25 miles away and DFW International Airport is 37 miles away, and the Texas Eagle Amtrak line stops in both Dallas and Fort Worth.
Schools
Sunnyvale is served by the Sunnyvale Independent School District, which is comprised of one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school that serve residents of the area. There are also a handful of preschool and private school options available nearby.
Attractions
Lake Ray Hubbard offers residents a great way to beat the Texas heat in the warmer months, and the surrounding greenbelts and parks make the area attractive to outdoor enthusiasts. The Mesquite Rodeo is a popular nearby attraction for those looking for some Texas-style nightlife, and Dallas hosts many professional sporting events throughout the year. The Dallas Stars, the Dallas Mavericks, the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers are among the professional sports teams in the area, and their arenas and stadiums are all just a short drive away from Sunnyvale.
