Around West Adams
West Adams is a very diverse neighborhood as the split between renters and homeowners is about 50/50. The residential section of the community is located along the southern edge of West Adams. Many of the homes near the campus of USC were considered abandoned, but recently several of the older structures have been converted into student housing. Land developers have entered the community to build new apartment complexes and refurbish the older homes back to their original pristine look.
West Adams has plenty of food options with some of the newer restaurants near USC offering an absolutely gorgeous view from their outdoor patios. Don't be fooled by the word "restaurant" for the more established local bar & grills because the inside atmosphere can hold its own against the competition. Patrons typically have dinner and then stay afterwards for some drinks in these vintage-style bars. Both dining options offer a full bar menu of craft beers and mixed drinks, plus the food menu offers great local cuisine.
West Adams is the highest populated region in LA with an average of over 14,500 residents-per-square-mile. Being in close proximity to the USC campus, West Adams has attracted a healthy mix of young professionals and college students living together within the community. The interaction between neighbors is vibrant, as local organizers schedule multiple house parties and outdoor activities throughout the year to help build a strong sense of neighborhood pride. These choreographed interactions have developed long-lasting relationships between all residents that will remain intact for a lifetime.
The West Adams Heritage Association (WAHA) has created a Friday night sightseeing tour through the neighborhood that showcases top architectural designs. Six different homes or buildings are chosen, as the tour discusses how their architectural design has influenced the structures being built in today's cities.
A farmers' market is one of the hottest attractions in West Adams, as it attracts throngs of residents every Sunday morning. The outdoor market takes place at Wellington Square on the corner of Crenshaw and West Avenue. Outsiders are amazed that fresh fruit, vegetables, homemade crêpes, and quesadillas have made their way into West Adams. Local farmers and small businesses appreciate the support as the streets are filled with patrons each weekend. Residents also love that a weekly farmers' market adds flavor to the West Adams community vibe.
