Around West Beverly
Bordering Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park, West Beverly is a very suburban area and consists mostly of residential streets with single-family homes. However, the neighborhood is defined by Chicago’s grid street system, which runs outside the city limits and into many of the suburbs.
West Beverly is not heavy on restaurants, but there is a dependable variety up and down Western Avenue which acts as the neighborhood’s commercial area. Like many Chicago neighborhoods, the food selection is heavy on pizza and Italian in general as well as east Asian cuisine like Chinese, Thai or Korean.
As a more suburban neighborhood, West Beverly largely consists of families living in single-family homes. However, West Beverly is different than most Chicago neighborhoods due to its unique past. It remains one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Chicago. An Irish influence is particularly present as the neighborhood hosts the South Side St. Patrick’s Day Parade every year.
West Beverly has a small collection of bars, mostly on Western Avenue if you’re looking for a night out on Friday. There’s no great diversity in things to do on a Friday night in West Beverly, but you can catch a movie at the local theater if you’re looking for a quieter night.
West Beverly is a great place for fans of the outdoors due to its location near multiple parks. Beverly and Munroe Parks both offer great amenities for children and adults alike. There are a few surrounding parks right on the border of West Beverly as well, and the neighborhood’s golfers also have easy access to Ridge Country Club.
