Around West Humboldt Park
West Humboldt Park is comprised primarily of single-family homes in the frame two-flat, bungalow, and worker cottage styles—although there are a scattering of condominiums throughout, especially the closer one gets to the main roads (North, Pulaski, Chicago, and Division). Although West Humboldt Park tends to be quiet throughout, the main streets do experience quite a bit of traffic, while the inner parts of the neighborhood have a decidedly calmer experience.
West Humboldt Park has no time for pomp, instead leaning towards fast casual food. Restaurants in West Humboldt Park reflect the cultural diversity of its residents, and if you have a craving for something, chances are there's an independently owned restaurant that serves it. Most of these restaurants are centered along Pulaski Road, Augusta Boulevard, and North Avenue.
West Humboldt Park was developed for early 19th-century workers and their families to have a place to call home, and not much has changed since then. West Humboldt Park is still a haven for young families, first-time homebuyers, and longtime neighborhood residents who couldn't imagine living elsewhere. The area's rich cultural heritage gives it a diversity that few neighborhoods can match, and inclusivity is fundamental to the neighborhood's character.
Start the night off by going to a performance in one of the neighborhood's warehouses, some of which have been converted into performance centers for one-off events. There are a couple of low-key bars along Pulaski Road and North Avenue, and turning the corner onto Grand Avenue, you’ll find unassuming taverns. The nightlife in West Humboldt Park skews more towards a calm night with friends at a local hangout.
Take a stroll through Kedvale Park on your way to brunch with friends on Pulaski or North Avenue and stop to watch the kids play soccer while sipping your morning coffee. Afterwards, take a stroll along North Avenue and get your weekly shopping done at one of the big box stores in the area. Go visit a workshops' open house along Grand Avenue, where local artisans show off their artistic skills.
