Sacramento is known as the “Farm-to-Fork” capital of America to some, and the “City of Trees” to others. One neighborhood that truly encapsulates all of that in Sacramento is Midtown. This neighborhood is known for its hip local coffee shops, gorgeous Victorian homes, good eats, and is decorated in both trees and murals by local artists. It’s truly the heart of Sacramento. Midtown is home to the Midtown Farmers Market and the Second Saturday Art Walk, which is held on the second Saturday of each month. Midtown’s coffee shops are what give Sacramento its rank in the top 10 cities for “coffee snobs.” Although there is so much to discover in Midtown, here are some my absolute favorite coffee shops and sights.

Temple Coffee Roasters

Across five locations in the Sacramento region, two of them are in Midtown alone. Their newly opened coffee shop right off of K Street is something you just have to see in person. The floors are made of pennies -- literally.

The above photographed location opened in the summer of 2009 and was the second location to open its doors. According to Temple’s website, they primarily focus on the origin of coffee and making sure they provide quality in every cup. The coffee, the lighting, and the overall ambience lends it a very homey vibe. Their vanilla latte is a must try.

Midtown Farmers Market

Hosted by the Midtown Association, this farmers market is held every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. between J Street and K Street. There are over 50 vendors providing fresh produce, good eats, and more. This is the perfect start to any weekend.

Philz Coffee

Move over Starbucks and make room for a new chain in town: Philz Coffee. Philz Coffee started in San Francisco, CA and opened its doors in Midtown Sacramento in the summer of 2017. Philz Coffee was welcomed with open arms in the Midtown community, with lines out the door. Their mint mojito is their most popular drink with notes of sweet cream and a generous bundle of mint.

Old Soul Coffee

This particular location, known as “The Alley,” was the first Old Soul location to open right in the heart of Midtown. This particular location is not only an artisan cafe, but also where they do all of their roasting and baking. Park and walk through the alley for a hand-crafted cup of coffee. What to try? Everything I’ve tried is delicious. Go for the caramel mocha or vanilla latte.

Art

Midtown is filled with character from the timeless Victorian homes to the murals adorning the walls created by local artists. Midtown has shown to be an accepting, friendly neighborhood through its focus on art. On the second Saturday of every month, local artists, vendors and more get together to put on the Second Saturday Art Walk. The event is free for all to attend and begins at 5:30 p.m.

Crepeville

Crepeville is the home of dessert crepes that you’ll crave at any time of the day. You just have to try the strawberry and Nutella crepe. Their menu is also jam-packed with all kinds of tasty dishes, including salads, sandwiches, pastas, French toast, and your typical breakfast sides. After your meal, take a stroll down L Street and visit the local boutiques and vintage shops.

There’s always something to see in the community of Midtown Sacramento. Not to mention it’s only a short drive from Downtown and the capitol building. There are many more amazing sights to see, and they are all in walking distance from each other. So grab your comfy sneakers and camera; and get ready to explore this gem in the capitol of California.
