Interstate 55 is effectively the city’s southern border make this an ideal suburb for commuters.
Downers Grove is served by school districts 58 and 66, depending which area of the city students reside within. There are several primary schools and two middle schools within the public school districts. There are also two high schools: Downers Grove North High School and Downers Grove South High School. Additionally, Downtown Downers Grove is home to the highly-regard Avery Coonley School serving K-8 students. Educational standards and performance are exceptionally high, with most organizations ranking Downers Grove public schools in the ninetieth percentile or greater nationally.
The downtown region of Downers Grove is known for its boutiques, galleries, and both family and fine dining restaurants. The Tivoli Theater is popular with locals looking for enjoy a little Hollywood nostalgia at this beautifully preserved movie palace. Downers Grove celebrates its small-town roots with several annual festivals like Founders Day, Fine Arts festival, and the popular summer Sidewalk Sale.
