Chicago Lawn

Chicago, Illinois

Overview

Chicago Lawn is one of the 77 official Chicago communities and it's located on the southwest side of the city. Bordered by 59th Street to the north, Bell Avenue to the east, 75th Street to the south, and Central Park Avenue to the west, Chicago Lawn is known as "Marquette Park" to the locals, in reference to the city park of the same name in the community, the largest on the southwest side. It is also home to Nabisco's Chicago plant, the largest bakery in the world.

Where To Live

Chicago Lawn is an all-around affordable neighborhood with ample parking and decent proximity to the CTA. Moving closer to main streets, such as Western Avenue, South Francisco Avenue, South Artesian Avenue, and West 65th Street, will prove to be more costly.

Where To Eat

The culinary scene in Chicago Lawn is vibrant, to say the least. Family-owned restaurants serve traditional cuisines from many different countries. You could have Middle Eastern food on Monday, Caribbean food on Wednesday, and round it out with some Latin American fare on Friday.

Friday Night Fun

Take the family to a community fair after dining out at a local Egyptian restaurant or venture down Southwestern Avenue for a multitude of casual and locally owned dining options. There are also fun restaurants along the northeastern corner of Marquette Park, where you can grab a bite before heading to the movie theater in the nearby Ashburn neighborhood.

The Perfect Sunday

Check out the "Fresh Beats & Eats" farmer's market that runs along 63rd Street. Then, take in an outdoor movie in Marquette Park, courtesy of the Chicago Park District.
